The City of Newberry is thrilled to announce that our own Jamie Jones, Assistant City Manager for Public Works and Utilities, has been awarded the Larry Hobart Seven Hats Award. This prestigious recognition was presented at the American Public Power Association’s National Conference held in Seattle, Washington.

The Larry Hobart Seven Hats Award is designed to honor managers of smaller utilities that serve fewer than 2,500 meters. It acknowledges these managers' unique multi-role responsibilities, encapsulating planning and design, administration, public relations, field supervision, accounting, human resources, and community leadership.

Jamie's role involves overseeing a diverse range of areas, such as electric, water, and wastewater utilities, public works, transportation, and mosquito control. His 30+ years of experience in public works and utilities has been instrumental in contract negotiations, budget developments, community communication, and field crew work.

Among his many accomplishments, Jamie developed an innovative training program that facilitates advancement from groundworkers to lineworkers. Most notably, he recently spearheaded negotiations with state regulatory officials and other cities in relation to a significant $42 million roadway expansion project. This project will require extensive upgrades to all city utility services in the construction vicinity.

Additionally, Jamie has been the leading force behind the City's wastewater treatment plant expansion, the largest single project in the City's history. This vital project ensures smart growth and sustainability for the City, showcasing Jamie's leadership and commitment to progress.

“As the Assistant City Manager for Utilities and Public Works, Jamie does it all, and he does it with dignity and pride. Jamie understands the residents of Newberry and their needs, and he is willing to do whatever is needed to get the job done. And while Jamie is highly capable, he is also very humble. No job is too big or too small, and he always wants what is best for his community. We couldn't think of a more deserving person in Florida for this award,” said Jacob Williams, General Manager and CEO of the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA).

Jamie's recognition reinforces the City of Newberry's commitment to serving its community with dedication, innovation, and superior service. The City of Newberry team is exceptionally proud to work alongside Jamie daily. His commitment to high standards in public service, innovative approach, and leadership continue to set an inspiring example.
