2024 Municipal Election Information & Candidate Qualifying

The Newberry Municipal Election, scheduled for April 9th, 2024, has been canceled.

Qualifying for the 2024 Election Cycle closed at Noon, Thursday, February 15th, 2024. 

Three candidates qualified for office:

Ricky Coleman, Commissioner Group I (Incumbent)

Mark Clark, Commissioner Group II (Incumbent)

Monty Farnsworth, Commissioner Group III (Incumbent)

Due to these candidates running for their office unopposed, the City of Newberry will not hold an election on April 9th, 2024.

The City of Newberry will be holding its annual Municipal Election on April 9th, 2024. City Commission elections take place each year, with Commissioners serving two-year terms. All seats are elected at-large and are non-partisan. 

  • Groups I, II, and III are elected in even years.
  • Groups IV, V, and the Mayor are elected in odd years.

Qualifying to Run for Office

Prior to opening a campaign bank account, accepting, or spending any money towards a campaign, candidates for municipal office must file the appropriate forms with the City Clerk! Any citizen interested in running for office should contact the City Clerk.

The qualifying period, to run for office, begins Monday, February 12th at 12:00 Noon and ends Thursday, February 15th at 12:00 Noon. Please contact Judy Rice, City Clerk, at 352-472-2446 or at CityClerk@NewberryFL.gov for an appointment and additional information.

Registration
To vote in City of Newberry elections residents must be registered to vote with the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections.  The voter registration book closing date is Monday, March 11, 2024. Residents must be registered to vote by this date.

Residents who are already registered to vote are encouraged to verify and, if needed, update their registration by visiting www.RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov or contacting the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections office. For additional voting information or registration, questions visit www.VoteAlachua.com.

If you are unsure if you live within the incorporated City of Newberry, please search for your residence address here. The second line will show "This parcel is in the city of Newberry" or "This parcel is in unincorporated Alachua County." A mailing address of "Newberry, FL, 32669" does not indicate whether you live within the City of Newberry. If you have any questions, please call us at 352-472-2446.

Election Day Voting

On election day, Tuesday, April 9th, the polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Bring a photo ID, with your signature. All City of Newberry residents may vote on election day at the Mentholee Norfleet Municipal Building located at 25420 W Newberry Road, Newberry, FL 32669.

Early Voting
The City of Newberry does not provide early voting for municipal-only elections.
