Codes Enforcement

The City of Newberry enforces the City’s ordinances, in accordance with Florida Statutes, in an effort to improve the quality of life within our community. We respond to citizen's concerns about a wide range of issues which affect the environment, health, safety, property values, and the general well being of our City. If you wish to report a violation, please contact the City’s Code Enforcement Office.

The Code Enforcement Officer will investigate the complaint and determine if there is a violation. In the event there is a violation, the Code Enforcement Officer will attempt to contact the property owner or responsible party. The Owner will have a set time to voluntarily remedy the violation. If the violation has not been resolved after the voluntary compliance period, the Code Enforcement Officer may issue a Notice of Violation and/or schedule a Special Magistrate hearing. 

NOTE: Effective July 1, 2021 -CS/SB 60 prohibits county and municipal code inspectors from initiating an investigation into violations of city or county codes or ordinances based upon an anonymous complaint. It also requires that an individual making a complaint of a potential violation provide his or her name and address to the local government body before an investigation may occur. The prohibition does not apply if the code inspector has reason to believe the alleged violation presents an imminent threat to public health, safety, or welfare or imminent destruction of habitat or sensitive resources. Anonymous Complaints that do not present an imminent threat cannot be investigated. 

It is the City's intent to maintain good health, safety, and a beautiful environment by providing education through obtaining voluntary compliance.

• Improvement of Property prior to the Issuance of a Building Permit
• Accumulation of Junk
• Inoperable or Unlicensed Vehicles
• Prohibited Signs
• Hazardous Lands (Overgrown Lots) or Dangerous Structures
• Parking of Trucks, Recreational Vehicles, & Trailers
• Minimum Housing
• Commercial business in a residential zone
