ACTFOR Basketball

The City of Newberry's Youth Basketball program focuses on fundamentals, sportsmanship, safety, and enjoyment.  There isn’t a better way to introduce your son or daughter to the sport of basketball.

• Youth Basketball is offered each winter from the end of November through mid-February.
• Coaches offer equal playing time to each player.
• The vast majority of our programs are coached by volunteers. A majority of our coaches are also parents of participants.
• Our teams are formed through a draft process. This process begins with a mandatory evaluation. This allows for more competitive teams across the league, ensuring a better experience for our participants. 

Cost: $100 Per Player

Ages Offered: 4-14

Age Groups: 6U(co-ed), 8U(coed), 8U(girls*), 10U(boys & girls*), 12U(boys & girls*), 14U(co-ed). 

*In the event of not enough players, teams may be reverted to co-ed*

*League age is determined by the player's age as of September 1st of the current year.*

Mandatory Player Evaluations for 8U-14U: 

Monday, November 27TH

8U COED: Check-In At 5:30 P.M. Evaluations From 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.

10U COED: Check-In At 6:30 P.M. Evaluations From 7:00 - 8:00 P.M.

Tuesday, November 28TH

12U COED: Check-In At 5:30 P.M. Evaluations From 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.

14U COED: Check-In At 6:30 P.M. Evaluations From 7:00 - 8:00 P.M. 

All players must be evaluated, and a draft is administered. This allows for fair teams. As such, player and/or coach requests are not guaranteed. All players will be placed on a team. 

Required Documents

• Players in age groups 8U-14U will be required to present birth certificates to Newberry Parks and Recreation staff. Staff will not need to keep a copy of birth certificates, which are for player eligibility only. 
• Newberry Parks and Recreation Registration & Waiver Form.
• Parent/Coach Code of Conduct.

Practice Information

• Practices are held during the week. Coaches select the times, but they do not start before 6 PM and do not finish later than 9 PM.
• Please notify the coach if a practice date/time conflicts with your schedule, and we will see if adjustments can be made.

Game Information

• Games will take place on Saturdays throughout January and February at the following locations: Newberry, Alachua, Gainesville, Bronson, Chiefland, Williston, Trenton, and Hawthorne.
• The game schedule is created by the Alachua County Task Force on Recreation Board of Directors. The schedule is not completed until all leagues have provided their team counts. Once a game schedule becomes available, all parents and coaches will be sent a copy via email.
• Players must participate in 50% of regular season games in order to be eligible to participate in end-of-season tournament. Please communicate any issues with attendance to the head coach as soon as possible.
